Dr. Scott Yates is a proud husband, father, practicing physician, private pilot, and entrepreneur. A lifelong student, he has earned graduate degrees in medicine, health service administration/clinical research, business administration, and healthcare administration.
Founder and President of the Center for Executive Medicine, Dr. Yates and his team counsel successful families to coordinate all aspects of their wellness, preventive, and acute medical care.
He leverages his extensive business and scientific training and experience to assist individuals and organizations in identifying, characterizing, and mitigating risk. His approach often involves reframing critical, complex, or emotion-laden issues to help an individual or team problem-solve. He is a strategic thinker who has been at the forefront of major trends in business and medicine, including electronic communications between physicians and patients, electronic medical records, and concierge medicine.
Dr. Yates' management and governance experience spans for-profit and philanthropic organizations in diverse areas, including capital allocation, education, managed care, information technology, and medicine. He has been a member of several boards of directors, including those of the Genesis Physicians Group (comprising over 1,400 physicians), the Texas Academy of Internal Medicine, and the American College of Physicians' Services Political Action Committee. In addition to various board and advisory roles, he serves as President of the Texas Academy of Internal Medicine Foundation and is a member of the foundation's board of directors.
He has been a principal investigator in over 100 clinical trials, authored numerous professional publications, and serves on the editorial review boards of several scientific journals.
Dr. Yates is a member of the medical staff of Presbyterian Hospital of Plano, Texas Health Center for Diagnostics and Surgery, and Lifecare Hospital Plano.
In recognition of his business, leadership, and excellence in patient care, Dr. Yates has been named a "healthcare hero" by the Dallas Business Journal and honored with a Fellowship designation by the American College of Physicians and the American College of Physician Executives.
Previously elected President of the Texas Academy of Internal Medicine, Dr. Yates is looked to by his peers as an expert in adult healthcare. He serves as a quality and utilization review physician for the Texas Medical Foundation and Texas Medical Board.
Dr. Yates’ research interests include wellness and disease prevention, obesity, hypertension, dyslipidemia, diabetes, vaccine development, stroke prevention and anticoagulation as well as office automation and electronic health records and the effect of these technologies on quality of care, error rates and physician burnout.
Dr. Yates spends his leisure time with his wife and children who share his love of learning, sports and travel.
